My Faran at Gatescarth
@james-rennie - it was the reviews I'd read and the carbon fork but the Faran looks great too. However the Secan is just a prettier bike.
I think both are January 2022 delivery for GRX 2x builds now hence I asked for recommendations for alternatives.
It might be that the wait is for GRX rather than anything else? Similar Mason Bokeh builds have December 2021 dates (I know it’s not what you’re after but is the first equivalent that came to mind).
Thanks but the lower spec Bokeh is roughly £3k
My budget was £2k but can stretch a little more
I ordered my Secan GRX800 2X back end of January with a build date of beginning of August. I had since found out that i can get it on bike to work, submitted the forms, but VIVUP want it without postage for some reason. Fairlight have amended the order but the date has been moved to the middle of November! Really hoping its a typo....but suspect its not. Will see how they reply to my email.

Yeah sorry my point was that the limitation might be the groupset rather than anything else, so if you're definitely after GRX 2x you might have the same availability problem everywhere. The Mason was just to illustrate that rather than suggest it as an option.
I think you're right, GRX 2x is in limited supply
Shand Stoater are available with GRX 2x within 8 weeks...🤔🤔🤔
Going for Rival ETap on mine, with a GX AXS rear mech. Not that far off GX Mechanical in terms of price - the GX AXS mech is on sale at bike-components right now, and the Rival brakes/shifters are cheaper than GRX. If the Rival parts show up on time, I'll have them two months before the frame.
Interesting George, what are you going for in terms of gearing?
Current bike has 10-42 and a 42t, and for me that's almost perfect, but here are a few steep offroad climbs where a little lower would be nice, so 10-50 will give me that extra bailout gear.
To be honest, if SRAM did a 10-45 like Shimano, I'd go for that, but I don't want to faff with freehubs, etc.
Oh - I mean "not that far off GRX Mechanical" above
I'm a big fan of the one-off colour-matched fork they did on this Secan
Seems I'm not alone - I asked Dom whether they'd offer it as an option, they're thinking about it
The Strael they did for Jack Howker at Albion was pretty tasty too:
That's lovely (although I hate the look of those rotors with the heatsinks)
The Strael has a colour matched fork as standard now

I need to stop looking at the Secan page before I order a frameset. The orange is nice but just found a picture of the blue. So smart.
this looks well worth reading

That was me last May. Then I thought, why not, and ordered a black Secan. It's amazing. Two sets of wheels and it's so capable. Long offroad routes, byway exploring and weekend club runs. Puts a smile on my face every time I'm out on it.
La la la your not helping 😆.
Don't need one just want a change from my current Camino.
Same happened me, have a perfectly good bike, got sucked in by lovely photos.
Rival ETap AXS shifter/brake combos in stock at Mantel now, just over 200 Euro an end, just ordered mine, and they've shipped. This bike is ending up fancier than I envisaged. Rival ETap brake/shifters are 2/3rd the price of GRX 810 - obviously the derailleur and cassette swallow that saving, but they end up pretty close on price.

Has anyone got hold of the Strael 3.0 yet? Apparently due about now...
I'm really fancying a Strael. I've got short arms and I reckon that the 'T' (54) configuration would be ideal. Can't decide between orange and putty, though....
Definately Putty
Bit of a hijack but my new Strael 3.0 arrived yesterday. OMG it rides so nicely, just perfectly balanced. A bit heavy (10kg) but makes up for it by being soo taut. If you're thinking about it, buy one. The dogs. https://1drv.ms/u/s!ArgWawuaGIKUi3gJlcDe__56WxKk
ooh that's nice
Dammit, that's unfair. My Secan is October.
Secan 2.5:
Now built in Taiwan not Europe with brexit being blamed. Looks like mine due next month will be the new model
My Secan

Running different saddle to this pic now.
Lovely, lovely bike. Rides really nice with the gravel king 35 tyres. Would love to get some 650b with 2.2 mountain bike tyres on

Oh man, that is ace. I had been bugging them about getting a colour matched fork, mine is due in earlyOct so looks like I get the new model too.
New dropouts too, that's a good addition. Hope the duty scenario doesn't affect me
Just realised that 2.4" compatibility means I can nick my old 27.5 carbon wheels off my son's bike and build a monster truck too 🙂
@finephilly what size strael is that? And how tall are you if you don't mind me asking? What build did you go for? I have been thinking about one for ages but the higher weight over a carbon frame is just niggling away at me in the back of my mind, although I do have a steel hardtail Mtb.
That's a 58R. I'm 183cm tall and evenly proportioned. It fits really well, but I haven't done any long rides on it yet (50 mile+). I'm quite flexible too and like a racy position, which is easy to achieve (they give you lots of spacers and don't cut the steerer).
I went for standard 105 but paid another £200 for hope wheels, which is all you need, really. I reckon it's worth paying another £40 for Conti GP5000's too (I have some spare ultrasports instead).
I understand your concern about weight (it is a bit slower uphill) - maybe if all I did was go for short fast blasts, I would get a carbon bike, but the weight is made up for by the handling and I think on long rides, it will be nice and comfortable too.
Just seeing a comment on IG from Fairlight re existing orders, they will absorb the duty costs for bikes already ordered, so no extra duty. I would have lived with 4% on a frame, but I'm sure 14% on a full bike would have been quite a sting for some folks, so nice to know they're taking care of that too.
They seem like a good bunch, Fairlight.
Anyone using a secan as mainly a road bike, who has previously or still has a lighter road bike and how does it compare? Possible to build one at around 8.5 kgs without going silly money?
@Tricky - wee nod over to the classifieds - I have a set of 650B wheels for sale if of interest ?
Ooh that's what I've ordered now they've upgraded the fork. Wasn't really bothered about the colour-matched fork but now I've seen it in blue I'm sold!
@honourablegeorge yes i know that but i have a secan (54r) id be interested in swap for a strael if anyone out there has one and wants to go the other way.
I liked the black carbon fork with the little logo
Took my Faran 2 on a 55km section of the Dorset Gravel dash route at the weekend. Handled it beautifully, with the only bits I struggled to ride more about fitness than anything else (although the descent down into Corfe had its moments...).
44mm WTB Raddlers on mine and really impressed so far, seem ok in most situations and perfectly acceptable on the road.
GRX600 is great, the brakes are outstanding. Only criticism is I would not mind a few lower gears off-road, but thats the compromise I guess for good road capability.
Interested to hear that on the Raddler, I have Riddlers on my Vulture which have been fine but after 1700k the rear tread is almost gone, was thinking the Raddler might be an improvement
Read a review saying they rolled better than the riddler despite deeper tread, which sounds like witchcraft, but.....

That was the original fork, they replaced that with the "Cempa" fork with the eyelets, and now that fork is painted. I think they'll still do a plain carbon fork if you email them, one or two on IG asked about that.
Hope they post up an orange build today, I ordered orange, but the black frame with the pewter headset made me flutter a bit. My last 9 or 10 bikes have all been either black or silver, figured I'd finally have a colourful one
