After the coldest, wettest ever ride on sunday, not to mention hail, sleet and epic thunder and lightning, and the subsequent wet, cold commutes since then, I feel the need for some 'sunspiration'!.

6 of us are going with CM in April, anyone who has any pics, greatly appreciated!.

Coogan; I managed to leave my sunglasses lying at the corner in your 2nd pic whilst taking photos. switchbacks call it "the impossible corner" due to the failure rate at getting round it 🙄

It's a steep one that one! We all got round it, only one caught his wheel right at then of it and did a quality over the bars moment.

I don't have access to pics at work but here's a bit of a video from last year, excuse the dodgy FM music.

Going to Morocco this year with them in April and can't wait

Pondering tyre choice too, I'll quite happily ride Butcher/purg grid in the lakes and for munro bashing duties all year, so why do I feel the need to go beefier for CM?.

Hmmm...

I just went with High Roller II's EXO's with DH tubes in them. No punctures. And I was mocked by all the tubeless blokes I'd get loads of punctures. Me: none. Tubeless: five. Pow!

Tyre wise go for anything with a tough carcass and low tread.
I used a Minion front and Ardent rear and they were way over the top grip wise.

Regarding tyres - mate of mine (the blur in the above shot) loved Larsen TT's as used by Marco.

I found my Purgatory/Captain combination worked fine but I don't tend to hit things particularly hard - more of a mincecore lite riding style.

I may just stick to my spesh tyres then, and take a spare obviously.

£430 for transfers, accomodation, guiding, breakfast supplies, evening meals and either in-car therapy or hot seat counselling. Flights out to Malaga are usually around £250 once you've been fined for taking luggage, bikes, breathable air... Reckon on spending £100 the entire week in beer and lunches. I don't know how they do it for the money.

Greg - think I rode Hans Dampf's tubeless out there last time. We won't be changing our tyres, you could run summer tyres no probs (small block 8 etc on the rear). But changing tyres is a faff so we'll have the usual Magic Mary/Hans Dampf tyres on this year. 1 spare between the two of us.

I didn't get on with the HD's Rik, then they started to fall to bits. I think we'll have more than enough spares between us matey!.

Edge nobbles fell off the carcass by any chance? We had this. We had soooo many punctures this year (including Marco and Matt!) it wasn't funny, tubeless and tubed both suffered.

It was exceptionally dry mind you and as a result I think a combination of the rocks, thorns and very hard dirt just made a good surface for punishing tyres. I ran ignitors for most of the week which were ok, but not as good as I remember them being. The last day I swapped out to a set of HRs which were much, much better. Magic Marys or Hans Dampfs would be ace if they stayed in one piece.

All I remember is over whelming fear, shortly followed by overwhelming fatigue.

And a desire to book a return trip the instant I got home.

It really was "all down hill except for the ups".

Love the place. I've dusted off and scanned a few old photos - same trails, different bikes. Saying that, it appears I was ahead of the trend riding 1x9 in 2001 🙂

1999 - Driving over lemons bridge (?)
[img] [/img]

Danger of death steps. Hardtails, rims brakes, rubber forks, no pads or dropper.....
[img] [/img]

Some things never change - Marco & Jackie, Orgiva lunch 2001.

[img] [/img]

Unpadded Marco 1999- shortly after this photo we broke him on a switchback and he bought some pads for his ikkle knees 🙂
[img] [/img]

1999 - Nearer the coast above their original place

Mmmmmm, the Kamikaze run to the back of the old house was fantastic. V brakes and hardtails with 80mm of travel. I remember that Kona Marco had. Also had a green one ?. Remember Natalie when she was first born too.......... I'm one of the oldies with Ciclo and love the riding..... Fun times......

Yeah we remember crying baby Natalie keeping poor Jackie up all night. I think the green hardtail was the Marzocchi forks that snapped and smashed him up a bit - new forks every year after that when it is the day job.

Love the current location and great to see how the setup has been refined.

Time for another visit I think - scarily our own kids are now almost ready for that kind of riding!
