It has been mentioned a few times to me since my near collision with a van I should get a camera of some sort. With my hopefully increasing riding next year, should I think about getting one?

I’ve done a couple of thousand road miles per year (so not many) for the last 10 years and have never felt the need for one.

I get the occasional close call but I’ve never collided with anyone so I’ve never needed evidence so it doesn’t feel worthwhile to me.

YMMV 😜

Does your local police force take it seriously?

If yes then you can send them the footage.

If no then really there isnt much point. All you're doing is making yet another obstacle to getting out the house for a ride. Can't ride today because...... Lights arent charged, di2 isnt charged, Garmin mount on the wrong bike, and now "there's a 1 in a million chance of a bit of dangerous driving worthy of YouTube and my go pro's flat, better stay indoors".

Keep cycling simple (and fun)! Not spending Sunday mornings pretending to be the police and filling in reports afterwards, followed by yet another bit of kit to take off the bike and charge, change as cards etc.

That answers the question then, thanks. Overthinking a bit probably. Won't waste my money, and try to enjoy it when I can.

Thanks
