Is it just a case of easing from the barb, cutting then easing back on like on the Sram video?
will fluid go everywhere and wont it not need bleeding?
On another note what a lovely day to go for a ride ๐
I followed the video, so yes, basically as you say, although I clearly did something wrong as fluid squooshed all over the place when I chopped the cable. I was using cable cutters, not hose specific cutters, that might have been the issue.
anyway, i was a little surprised as fluid arched over the garage and over my face, noting at the time that that deffo did not happen in the video! ๐
Anyhoo, mine came with the bleed kit, so easy to fix.
Kev
hopefully you had you safety glasses, nitrile gloves and isopropyl alcohol to clean up the mess.
Use a new stanley blade and you will get a better cut, other than that it is very simple to do and you shouldn't loose much fluid, if any.
+1 Stanley knife - I did MrsR's one a couple of weeks ago. Keep the control higher than the post, cut neatly and hold the end as upright as possible - didn't have to bleed it. Worked a treat.
The barb may have a thread on so not so much ease off but unscrew. If done right you may not need to bleed
warm it up with a lighter first, just a couple of seconds does it.
2011 or 2012?
2012 takes seconds as the barb is threaded - hold vertical and steady, unscrew, cut carefully, screw back in. No bleed needed for me.
A plastic pipe cutter like this gives nice square cuts on reverb and also brake hoses:
2011 a bit more involved.

Thanks guys 2012 reverb piece of pi**
Mark length of hose, take lever off, hold higher than seat post, unscrew lever, hold rag around hose, cut hose and screw lever back on!
No bleed and 5 mins ๐
