Go and check out the BWs of Helvellyn. Sticks Pass or Grisedale.

If you like Rossett ghyll, Dollywagon (Helvellyn) is pretty sweet, theres not many riders that can get down it without a puncture or crashing 🙄 (The gully at 154 secs is the hardest part)Rider is Max cousins top lakey bloke rider 😉

Having carried my bike up dollywagon pike all I can say is that guy in that clip has got the skills to pay the bills 😉 Back on track, of the trails I've done in the lakes I'd say the top of nan bield is the hardest I've done. (Kentmere side) halfway down it gets easier.

Top skills there, I struggled with a fair few of those drainage ditches.

Nobeer, the bit after the tarn is much much better IMO. Still techy but more natural and a bit more rideable for me.

Yeh I've done dollywaggon, to be fair I'm looking for Sumat more tech, not knocking yer riding or owt, just that I prefer more trialsy tech, more Steep an boulderie where u have to have some skill bout ya to get through it!

Yeh am thinking bout doing nam beild other way round supposed to be good, rossit gyll is good but bottom half spoils it! But I ant done it in about 5 year and been told they've filled it all in!
Cheers anyhows.

What is the other way to do Nan Bield? If you mean to go from Sadgill over Gatesgarth Pass and down to Haweswater and then up the north side of nan Bield and down the other side into Kentmere then I suppose everyone has to do it once to know not to bother. If you cut accross Harter Fell, puishing your bike along the FP sections, you drop down to the top of Nan Bield down some challenging craggy rocks. Then you can go down the excellent decent into Kentmere.

While you are there in Kentmere ride up Garburn from the Kentmere side and decend down the Troutbeck side. It is rather specatularly washed out and more entertaining than the Kentmere side which is still fun but rather loose.

You could play around Grizedale for days and not get bored with the riding you can access there.

Don't feed the troll, it appears pussy has ridden everything in the Lakes! have to agree with him about Dollywagon though, these are manmade steps, i go into the mountains to get away from the urbane environment, they do not belong in the mountains, for this reason i will not entertain this shambolic feature.

I think it should be stated that 'Grisedale' as in Grisedale Pike, nr Whinlatter and Grizedale, as in Grizedale Forest are two totally different places. Can be confusing for Cumbrians, let alone anyone else.

Pussywillow - when you say Red Pike do you mean the one overlooking Buttermere, that starts with a red coloured natural chute leading into steep rocky trail down to a tarn heading towards Buttermere? Always fancied that one myself. I know what you mean about Dollywagon - basically a flight of steps. Rosset is good though, or was a few years back - might be ruined now.

Coming down Stake Pass to Langstrath is good, steep in places and some nice tight narrow (refurbished) switchbacks at the top. BW along the valley is somewhat 'trialsy' (I fustratingly carried many sections, the FP opposite looked better).

Bit confused by this, you seem to be talking about descending into Kentmere from Nan Bield in both sentences, but one of them is excellent and the other not worth bothering with 😕 Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Re Dollywagon, yeah the steps are a bit dull but the bit just after it is ace.

Another vote for Wharnscale Bottoms MAP.

Proper techy and tasty. I wont mention the cheeky stuff (but there is loads).

Max rode that descent like a god. Very Very impressive.

Lowry, so from the slate mines down to Gatesgarth? Never done that. I guess you could tack it onto Borrowdale Bash somehow.

there is no 'cheeky' in the lakes really - it's pretty much all rock so can withstand the odd few bikes and the walkers love it anyways

ullock pike from skiddaw
old man of coniston path through the quarry/mine

rode sticks pass at the weekend - half decent descent. top section is nice, then just a bit steppy/slabby. walked out up rossett gill and was planning to come back down it - again steps and slabs, but would def be a challenge. styhead gill to seathwaite is fast and fun too.

gonna explore more this year...

Ascend to Dubs quarry and descend BW from Drum hut (top of old incline) to Wharnscale Bottoms.

Theres a vid knocking around from the Keswick Tuesday nighters that shows it off pretty well... I'll have a look..

The Dolly Waggon trail IS one of the best descents in the Lakes. I have never had such a big grin across my face as I did coming off the back of the Waggon !

I had an off on one of the switch backs but even that was comical- An OTB where you land on your feet and the momentum propels you into a run down the trail whilst the bike stays firmly lodged in the crevice you landed in. 😀

Parkamoor is good from Grizedale Forest, very similar to stuff in the Peaks. The Garburn is good down to Kentmere (and the pass after that (can't remember the name)). The Nan Bield before and after the bike hike up past Small Water (and you can link that onto the Garburn for a full day out). Walna Scar road before it was sanitised was great (I beleive it's washing away again 😆 ). Several routes off and round High Street... All good descents but basically IT'S ALL GOOD IN THE LAKES !!!

Oooooh you've got me in the mood now. Lakes on Sunday it is !

POSTED 5 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST

Absolutley spot on!! But u climb up that red steep chute then down the other side. Although I bet it would be good doing it both ways.

Easdale Tarn is a challenge, especially in the wet.

Halls fell ridge would surely be a massive amount of carrying even if you were seriously good?

Yeah it's been a while since I walked it but the was a reasonable amount of (easy) scrambling IIRC and very steep in places. Would require a riding god surely.

Some say Sharp Edge is an easier scramble than Halls Fell Ridge.
