Hi,

As the title suggests, i'm looking for an upgraded bottom bracket to the Shimano SM-BB91-41A press fit. From having a quick look around there doesn't seem many press fit options or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance

I think you can get adapter cups which allow you to hit std ht2 cups to the frame.

I've been running the plastic Shimano on my Whippet for about 18 months. All was good (except lots of creaking in the early days which eventually settled down) until recently when a few mm of play quickly developed in the cranks. Seems the bearing housing on the drive side has degraded somewhat - not surprising as its been taking single speed abuse all its life.

Anyhoo - yesterday i replaced it with a lovely alloy KCNC one same as this:

Going out for a few hours for first time today and will report back...

p7rich, look forward to an update.

Yeah, i rode and neglected my bike before going on holiday for a week and came back to find my BB solid, hence the need for a new shinny one.

Thanks MTB Rob, although £90 is more than I wanted to spend really and not sure places will have stock yet will they.

Looking at these as everyone seems to rate enduro bearings http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id256.html but can't find UK supplier

I hate, hate, hate the stupid plastic top hats that most of these BB's seem to have to make the crank axle fit the bearing. Therefore I like the Enduro Fork Seals one;

Unfortunately you have to order them from the US though.

The new Hope one looks promising but pricing seems high compared to the Enduro one.

I've tried the KCNC one as well and found it really, really tight in my BB shell. It was basically impossible to fit without the o-rings getting mashed up, therefore it never quite sat straight in the frame.

If you search for Zesty + bottom brackets you'll get lots of info as they seem to be just about the most popular bikes that use these type of push-fit BB's.

EDIT: You beat me to it!! I might be worth trying to ring BETD. They distribute (or at least supply) other Enduro Fork Seals bearings. I did email them once about them but never got a reply.

All fine. 17 (sunny) miles later and nothing adverse to report. Not even a squeak from it and felt smooth-as. Let's see if it has staying power.

PS. I actually liked the Shimano one and it felt like it was almost 'not there' - which i reckon is high praise for a BB. Shame it made such a frustrating racket in the early days and had a removal problem with its drive-side bearing mating with the crank axle, forcing me to spend ages drifting it off.

Poonprice, yes price is highish, but if they anything like there normal BB which last bloody ages (over a year) I still say they worth the morning, V well sealed and I think you can just replace the bearings when they finally go. (double check) which make a cheap replacement in the future

The Hope bearings are replaceable, without removing the shells from the frame.
While I was browsing in Garage Bikes on Friday, BigAl said "'ere Chip, you've got an engineering background, what do you think to this new Hope bottom bracket?"
It certainly looks the part. A younger mechy might've creamed in his jeans.
😛

Who's stocking the Hope press-fit bottom bracket at the moment?
