I’m after some new Mtb (trail/enduro type) shoes and a pair of Shimano AM9s look like they’d fit the bill.
However I can’t find anywhere to try some on.
I’ve tried some racy Shimano shoes in Decathlon (xc3 or 5) and they feel very narrow in the toe box, but my elderly AM5s I use for commuting are positively boatlike in the same size (probably should have sized down when I bought them)
So are all Shimano shoes built on the same (narrow) last these days, or are the less racy ones more of a relaxed fit?
(I have a narrow heel, high arches, wide forefoot if that helps)
Thanks!
Ams are roomier.

I’d say no. I’ve got some xc style Shimano shoes that are definitely tighter / smaller than my am7’s and both are the same shoe size.
Am7s are way comfier and better support the underside of my foot I’d say.
I'm currently using Me7's and they are noticably narrower than the (older) am9's they replaced, sole is noticably stiffer as well
Pretty sure they've recently changed the last on the AM range. I thought the old ones were great, the new ones feel much pointier up front and bigger in the heel to me.
My shimano Road shoes in a 45 are a tight fit in roadie summer socks. My GR7s in 45 are a comfy fit in mtb socks and accommodate sealskins. My XC7s are a 46 to achieve that roomier fit.
I've three pairs of Shimano shoes currently (Carbon road, GR7 and ME5) and can't see me buying any other brand as they fit so well.
If they changed their last then this could be bad news. 😔
