Picked up a Spesh Chisel a few months ago from Tredz.
Have done less than 100 miles and the shifter has developed a problem where on the 7th gear the shift dowb button doesn't click properly. A single click doesn't change gear. I have to full press the shifter and then it goes direct to 5th rather 6th. All other gears are OK (for now).
Is it likely to be repairable or should I direct to the nearest place that will sell me Shimnao replacements and get the rid of the cheese made SRAM stuff?
.
Lower spec SRAM groups are cheese, but an easy fix would be to buy the GX shifter for £30 or so? Much better performance. I'm not sure there's a direct replacement Shimano to SRAM, don't they pull different cable lengths?
I'd swap derailleur and shifter for Shimano but now might consider the GX one.
NX is a very good groupset IMO. My riding companion has been using one intensively for 2 years without maintenance or adjustment and it shifts beautifully. Perhaps he has the only one that works though!
I am sure Tredz will help under warranty, they are usually very good.
Been in touch with Tredz have been told to do a warranty claim. So will try that first
Fwiw, I had a 12 spd SX on my Sonder that's lasted over 3 years. Only taken off because I went 1x10.
No issue with the shifter, just got tired of bending cassettes. Wasn't going to spend quality 12spd cassette money on the commuter bike!
Good with the warranty return. Always worth a squirt of GT85 into the mechanism, in-case there is dirt in there.
When the warranty return fails, you can replace it with a 12 speed Shimano shifter that actually works.
Sram GX Eagle shifters work well and last a decent amount of time. They have a lighter shift action than my Shimano XT 12 speed one - although I do wonder if the XT mech gumming up is something to do with that. Before this XT mech I’ve never had to service a mech before 🤯
I've got NX on my bike, I got the groupset from CRC last year when it was on offer. It's been ok so far but the shift from 2nd to first gear is noticeably stiffer, despite everything being checked over. I rode my other bike for the first time in ages last week and was amazed at how much lighter the SLX shifters were, I know what mech and shifters I'll be buying at some point in the future....
Before you send it back I'd check your gear indexing, cable tension, b-screw etc to make sure that is all properly set up. Eagle can be quite temperamental to slightest differences in tension and cage alignment. Worth giving that a try.
over 3k on my NX shifter without any probs. The NX derailleur was a different matter, and running an SLX RD now, and that's got 2.8k on it. But again, settting the RD up properly irons out any shifting issues
Send in the warranty claim, ime SRAM will replace it, but itll take ages
So just buy SLX mech & shifter (or Deore or XT depending on budget) and sell the shifter when it eventually turns up
Good advice all. Will check over for dirt inside etc.
The shifting of all other gears is perfect so would be surprised if derailleur, hanger and cable was at fault. Definitely feels like the mechanism inside the shifter isn't right. Think yesteryday I disconected cable from derailleur and it still felt wrong.
Currently have a Shimano shifter and mech in my ebay basket 🙂
Merlin have a Shimano sale on atm
