Hi I have an old shimano 600 tri colour hub. The free hub body is knarckard lots of play. Does anyone know if it can be replaced with standard hub body I can easily get hold of.
The cassette is an 8 speed shimano hyperglide if that means anything.

From the picture I'm pretty sure that any 8/9 speed shimano freehub should fit it.
No it wont, there are different freehub bodies anyway, they're not all cross compatible.
I imagine something will fit though - try and find the tech docs for your hub with the part number. They should go back that far.
It'll be the most common one. Note the sealing will likely be different.
Tech Docs ( http://si.shimano.com/) go back to 6500, Tri-color was years before that, would be asking on Retrobike if no-one can help on here.
Thanks for the info I'll give retrobike a shout. I just got a new 8 speed cassette from wiggle which fits it fine.
I know that they are not all compatible, but shimano 600 (ultegra) was pretty standard and most std shimano freehubs should* fit it.
The worst that can happen is that the newer freehub may be slightly wider than your old freehub.
*DA may not (although a bogo cheap 9 speed freehub does fit my da 9 speed hub but is about 1mm wider)
