[Closed] Shimano 105 calipers - can I use any levers?

[#6202167]

Just picked up a pair of 105 calipers to replace the ageing brakes on my singlespeed road bike. The instructions claim

"Must be used in conjunction with ST-5700, ST-6700 or ST-7900 STIs for correct leverage ratio"

As the bike is singlespeed, I really don't want any STIs, just some simple levers. Anyone know if could I use any levers, like some nice cheap Tektro RL340s, or Shimano Soras?

Guidance appreciated!

Thanks,
Nick

They'll all work, but the leverage ratio/clearance will be less than ideal.

Thanks scotroutes. Any ideas whether the Shimano (non-STI) would provide better ratios than the Tektro? Or if drop-bar V-brake levers (longer pull, I think) are a better option than standard pull (like these)?

Cheers!

I've used them with Cane Creek drop & TT levers, no problems at all.
