Just fitted some x2 evos to my bike but im not happy with the gear shifter positioning, the problem being the little piston that protrudes on the inside of lever being uncomfortably close to my gear pods. Im using deore at the moment. can anyone advise on a better shifter setup?
Take the shifter window off and have them set up like this

The shifter is just where you need it, and the leaver is in the perfect position for braking.

+1 for removing shifter windows
but you will need new shifters as deore do not have removable windows anything better does so SLX, XT, saint or XTR all of which are good shifters it just depends on your budget.
Get the matchmaker clamps.
Works treat with my Hope/XTR combos.

Matchmakers are the way forward, perfect for xt shifters.
Another vote here for matchmakers.
SLX shifters work fine, with the windows removed - brakes run inboard.
But just installed XTR along with Hope matchmakers' - a lot better.

If you are running 9x3 speed I have some XT shifters in excellent condition for sale. Come complete with shifter windows and the covers you need if you remove them.
