Not really into "xc racing" bikes, however that's very nice indeed 😀

This is STW, so in the interest of being hyper critical, you need bar plugs, stem looks a bit long/ugly, and think the cranks/bash guard set up looks out of place 😉

Agree about the stem
XTR may be an option when bank balance recovers
I don't have a big ring for the same reason I don't have a granny ring, I don't use/ want them

Right, I think we may have established that the stem is shite...

...and a bit long

So something a bit trendier to get hold of and now I'm wondering whether shorter will make the steering a little quicker/better

Oh and yes, it will be covered in shite the first chance I get to ride it

I like the stem. "Forsake a bit of control for a bit more ar5e in the air" kind of look.

Seat tube is pretty fugly though. Looks like a shop-soiled sex aid.

Bashring... Do you actually plan to do serious rock-bashing with it? If not, a BBG will do the chain-catching and weigh a fair chunk less, way more effective weight loss per £ than ti bolts...

I'd never actually considered the seat tube was going to be such an issue. It looks better in the flesh (wrong analogy perhaps for something that's been likened to a penis) and doesn't bother me.

The bash ring I did because just having a single ring on the middle with nothing else looks agricultural in my opinion and needs something utilising the outer bolts for aesthetics. There will be a Blackspire Blackguard on the granny bolts next week to sandwich the chain so I can get rid of the dogs dinner that is an N-gear jump stop

Not that fussed about it being ultra light, it's already 22lb anyway

Ti bolts? Dunno, maybe I won't unless I've got a few quid burning a hole in my pocket.

Did you get that frame only? Thought the 9.9 came with XTR still?

Need to ditch the bash ring, and the bars look wrong somehow, but it looks good!

Frame was a warranty job. Used to be 9.8 but upgraded

Got nothing to compare it to having only just taken it up other than a full rigid single speed, it's a lot more comfortable than that

Just local around Stoke, one trip to Wales, a bit of Cannock. Press fit bearings fell out of the 9.8 (not exactly pressed or a tight fit).

yes bb without any shell are a terrible idea.. how many frames have Trek replaced because of this, yet they're still doing it, for a tiny weight saving?

I assume he meant frame pivot bearings (which are meant to be loctited in? Personally I've not seen any issues with the BB90 shells. Better idea than press-fit cups IMO.

Just wait for Trek's new "suspension damping balls" 2 spheres which control the damping (a la "brain") connected to the shock but sited at the base of the seat mast.

The high end "balls" are hair-coated to improve responsivity 😀

The pressure release valve may empty the damping fluid etc...

No, I meant the BB. Never could remove the play in the old frame, thought it was a bearing issue but when I replaced it, as mentioned, it dropped on the floor, play was between the outer bearing case and the inside of the housing in the frame.

Very happy with the upgrade, says made in USA on the seat mast / penis (as it will be now known by the looks of it) so it may be better build quality than the original far eastern job (if that's where the original came from, guessing).
