[#2086721]

Just got a XT Shadow Rear Mech, planning to fit it ready for this weekend. Are there any differences in setting it up compared with a standard XT mech?

Thanks in advance,

Paceman

In terms of fitting to bike etc, I far as I can remember there was no difference to the normal Shimano rear mechs I've fitted before.

The only difference was when adjusting the mech to shift between the gears.

The shadow mech I have has no adjuster barrel, so I had to use the adjuster barrel on the shift lever instead.

Hope this helps.

Should be pretty straightforward then, once i've sorted the cable routing.

They're pretty straight forward, the only real difference being that the cable goes pretty much straight into the mech. without the need for a large loop of cable that you'd have with a conventional mech.

Same - except different (shorter) cable outer insert position (straighter).

Make sure you have the stop on the rear mech hanger located correctly with the mech. Have a look at the instructions for installation to make sure.

Bit less tolerant of B-tension position, seems to make a fair difference to how the mech shifts so needs to be set up carefully to get the most out of the mech. Also make sure you have enough cable in the final loop to allow the mech to move forward with the B-tension screw.
