My personal favourite is when people call Schwalbe "Schwabble" ๐
Adidas is definitely Adi Das, not the long eee sound.
Come from the founder Adolf (Adi) Dassler who was a German cobbler.
Rudolph Dassler was his older brother who set up Puma.
Horst Dassler was his son who set up Arena swimwear.
Quite impressive really for one family.
What about Marzocchi?Mar Zoch Chi
or
Mar Zock Ee
or something else?
In Italian "ch" makes it equivalent to a "k" sound in English so the second of your two would be right...but really? folk have actual arguments over this kind of thing?
Commen-chal (as in loch)
๐ฏ
Had a guy in the bike shop asking about Pew-Joe bikes once. It took a while to work out that he meant Peugeot.
I've heard all sorts of interpretations of Marzocchi. The correct one (apparently) being Mar-ZOK-Ee.
Sort of bike related was hearing some Americans at Coed-y-Brenin pronounce the name of the nearest town as Doller-Gelloo (hard g). ๐
agreed - I call them swabbly since I heard a guy say it in a bike shop once (only do it in my head, mind)My personal favourite is when people call Schwalbe "Schwabble"
how about Deuter bags, then:
doo-ter (in californian)
doy-ter (in german)
dir-ter (in frenchish)
dyoo-ter (in, err, dunno)
robhughesWhat about Lapierre.How the hell does that one go...
Current evidence would suggest "SNAP" to be a good approximation........ ๐
"Commen-chal (as in loch)"
but aren't they from Andorra?
"my personal favourite Cannondale"
lol. Beats my old favourite of commonfail
๐ I've just remembered something else...
When I was working in one of a large chain of bike shops, I had a guy come in and ask if we sold "Bomkss" bikes (difficult to spell the noise he made)
I asked "I'm sorry, what kind of bikes?"
"Bomkss"
"Umm... I'm not sure I've heard of that brand, Could you spell that please?"
"Yeah sure, B M X"
"Oooooh..."
maxtorque..Hope my spicy does snap(no warranty)as i,ll have a good excuse to buy a shinny new 160 frame.Different manufacturer of course... ๐

Maxx-ees or Maxx-iss tyres?
How about CERVELO ?
is it SIR-VELO or CHER-VELO. If Italian then the latter, but everyone uses the former...
CERVELO
They're Canadian. Only ever hear it pronounced
.SIR-VELO
Another good one is Cinelli. I've heard 'SIN-ELLI' and 'KIN-ELLI' as well as the correct version.

.Another good one is Cinelli
Cinelli: Kin-er-ell-iollii.
One of our work colleagues comes from Marin County. You have to put your aviators on, wear a highway patrol stetson, chew some tobacco and say it...How about Marin then..?
...Muh-rin
๐ priceless!PAN-A-RACK-ER
A well known lbs owner of considerable riding skillz and mechnical repute near me says "Bianchi" wrong despite talking fondly of the one he used to have a few years ago. ๐
"Commen-chal (as in loch)"
but aren't they from Andorra?
iirc Max Commencal himself is French, but runs his bizness in Andorra because of the excellent trails, mountains, chairlifts and tax arrangments ๐
I think I will start saying "Ca-non-da-lay" from now on and see how long it takes before someone gets all upset at me. ๐
Specialized = muh-ree-de
Giant = muh-ree-de
trek = muh-ree-de
wilier = muh-ree-de
Luckily, I've got a bike from a straightforward British company- it's an Onion Flatbread. Or something
On One 456.
Four-hundred-and-fifty-six

Was he the real fonejacker?"Bomkss"
"Umm... I'm not sure I've heard of that brand, Could you spell that please?"
"Yeah sure, B M X"
Cervelo - Chur-vel-eo was the most inspired one I heard.
I heard about a customer asking a bike shop sales assistant if they sold gee-an-tee bikes. Assistant looked very blank then the penny dropped, he said to the customer "is that like James and the gee-an-tee peach?"
BONTRAGER is itBON-TRAY-GER
or
BON-TRAR-GER
tricky, but I believe it's pronounced TREK
proper funny )I heard about a customer asking a bike shop sales assistant if they sold gee-an-tee bikes. Assistant looked very blank then the penny dropped, he said to the customer "is that like James and the gee-an-tee peach?"
