New shock coming my way with more dials that the starship enterprise's cockpit. Fox Float X2.

Normally when i set shock sag i turn any compression damping off then set sag etc etc.

The manual with the x2 states that the compression should be turned fully clockwise which appears to have compression damping fully on. Which in my head makes no sense.

Every day is a school day so hit me with your wisdom folks.

Static sag? It 'should' settle in the same position regardless

But having some compression damping on will slow any bobbing around so perhaps make it easier to get a reading from a band around the shaft

I set my X2 up with the adjusters in the middle, the rebound/compression will have no influence on the sag/ride height. Once you have set the sag, use the table in the manual to set the shock to the suggested base setting and start from there.

This. Damping is just a brake, so u less you actually lock it out it'll make no difference
