the layback posts are apparently a bit weak

the iflys are like sitting on a razor

the regular ones are fine they flex toward the back rather than the sides if that makes sense

I tried the i-beam and bel air combo , felt ok for the first couple of rides but by the third consecutive day my arse bones felt soooooooooo bruised . Was worth a try as i'd always liked the normal sdg bel air but i beams are not for me .

I'm only 10st dripping wet so it's not like it'll get hammered. It's just changing to new idea/system as opposed traditional-easy replacement of the shelf should the post or saddle fail.I've always found the bel airs a decent perch and wanted any views if the Ibeam style was different.

Been using Ibeam system for 5 years and really rate it.
The Formula FX saddle is very comfortable.

I also have used them for a fair few years now; current combo is a carbon post and Formula FX saddle. Very comfy and forgiving, and light.

I've been using Ibeams/Bel Airs for 5 or 6 years.
I've had 2 posts that have worn to a smaller diameter after a couple of years, and the other week I had one shear off, flush with the top of the seat tube!
I find the saddle comfy though.

Had an Ibeam SL on the full suss for about 5 years now. Tried it on the hardtail but it was a bit too firm. It's well made, decent shape and the weight / cost ratio is unbeatable. Just a pity the trade off is a PIA on longer rides.

Watch where the tube joins the clamp casting, I had one aluminium post fail there after about 3 hours riding. Shame as I've lost faith in the system.

Got an iBeam post and Bel Air SL combo on a couple of bikes, one a layback, one not, and haven't experienced any problems, no numb bum or bruised bones. Also no saddle creak which other post and seat combinations I'd tried were prone to.

In fact I have a 31.6mm layback post for sale or swap for a 27.2mm here, so if any I-beam fans have one going spare...

I've got an I-beam post going spare; came with my whyte and I never got on with it - have now swapped for a std post and a charge spoon. I think it's a 27.2 - it's free to a good home.

shame it's not a 30.9 lay back, its what I'm after. ๐Ÿ˜€ Think I may give the Ibeam a try.

Get on with mine absolutely fine. Very light and a bargain when it was a free seatpost with the saddle at CRC.

I use my smaller diameter I-Beam with a seatpost shim to make it up to my seat-tube size, and have done for years with no problems. I'd take him up on the offer if I were you ๐Ÿ™‚

EDIT: Not layback I see..

Is it a layback?

Really keen on them. I find normal saddles uncomfortable now! I have managed to get through two 27.2 posts. One cracked by the saddle clamp it had been being used a lot in sub zero temps. Googling it seems to not be an uncommon failure. Also managed to bend another 27.2 at the clamp. Reckon I overtightened the clamp bolt. Hasn't,t stopped me using them though - I,ve had no issues with a 31.6 or 30.9 posts or the carbon 27.2 I upgraded to.

i've got an i-beam saddle. i've also got a layback i-beam post, but am reluctant to use it after the first one bent on me leaving me with a rather uncomfortable ride. despite me asking CRC for an in-line post as a replacement they sent me another layback.

saddle is light. can't comment on durability, but i can say it held up well for approx. 15 minutes continuous use before the post failed.

Stevehine, If you still have the post I'll buy it for the postage cost and a bit as I want to try the i beam system on my xc bike. Cheers
Tim

Really like the system. Found them very comfortable and light - did a few enduros on a bel air sl. Lost faith when I snapped 2 posts in close sucession. It was in very cold weather, both went at the top of the post where the seat mount fitted in to the post.
