[#9488373]

I stupidly dropped a tool this afternoon on my week old Scott scale. A small amount has chipped off the chainstay. It's not particularly noticeable unless you get really close. Thing is it's on the matte black carbon. Is the matte black paint or is it part of the carbon frame itself. I was thinking of just touching it up with a bit of satin black paint if it's just paint. I'm just concerned I may have damaged the integrity of the frame? Any ideas?

I did the same and used a tiny dab of nail varnish.

So it would be matte black paint that chipped off rather than carbon from the frame itself. More concerned as the chain stays on Scott scales and thin as they are!

Still can't figure out if the matteblack stuff that chipped off is paint or not? Anyone have any ideas if the matte black on Scott scales is paint or actual carbon on the outside?

It's paint, or at least very worst case, lacquer. Don't worry.

It's the topcoat of the carbon, I can see the carbon layup on both of my carbon Scott frames so I'm certain there isn't any paint. If it's shallow you'll be fine they are thicker walls than you imagine. Fill with epoxy and some sort of filler I find you're worried and it's deep, if it's shallow leave it and go for a ride!

It was quite shallow. I bought some satin black paint top up kit from halford. Painted it in and got some very fine sand paper to smooth and blend it in. Only visible if you look very closely. Went for a ride on it with it on and it held up so guess that means it's fine. I'd expect it come off it was too damaged and flexing in that area

It'll be fine bud.

Your going to get chips like that from flint etc.

That said I have 3 layers of helitape on my down tube just in case! 😀
