[Closed] Scott Genius cracking shock bolt

Hi all,
I have a 2019 Scott Genius with what I think is a cracking shock bolt. I took the bike to a bike shop and they thought it was the shock bolt too. They took it out and put some thread lock on, the mechanic said the coating on the bolt had chipped off. After taking the bike back and riding it, the previously load crack when pressure was applied for example (a wheelie) had gone but there was a quiet crack still there that was more frequent. Wondering if anyone has had the same problem or knows a solution.

Thanks.

Assume they checked all bearings and the du bushings as well?
I've seen chipping shock bolts on "less than frequeny" maintained genius with the alloy linkage but not cracked bolts. The shock bolt sits in the flip chips and there could be tolerancing issues here if the bolt has been allowed to chew away at the inner surface of the flip chip seat.
I'd lean towards lubing the bolt head and flip chip in the rocker as well as the flip chip seat and threadlocked thread on the captive flip chip side. While the bolt (and rear wheel) is out, pull the shock forward out of the way of the rocker linkage and cycle the suspension to see if there's a nice smooth action of if you've a bearing that's shot.
2019 went to bearings everywhere I believe. No igus bushings aside from shock mounts.

To add... Could also be something entirely unrelated to the suspension or pivots.

Ruling out the pedals and BB itself....... when I have had loud cracking sounds coming from my various (four bar horst link) FS bikes, nine times out of ten it has been seized main pivot bearings. I find it is the main pivot (next to the BB) and the ones next to rear axle that go first, whilst the upper linkage ones last a lot longer. Of course this varies with different designs, uses and operation hours.

If the shock bolt has got bad fretting wear you should replace it when changing the hardware/eyelet bushing. This is one of the reasons frame bearing replacement costs so much. The fasteners are mostly soft alloy and it's not unusual to find damaged hardware, especially where things have seized or worked loose during operation.

Good luck getting to the bottom of it!

is it a carbon frame? I had something similar on a 2005 Genius and it turned out there was a crack in the frame. Scott replaced the frame, it had a life time warranty, and the LBS (a high end Scott dealer) rebuilt it all for free (or maybe Scott paid for it, I didn't really care).

I have the 2018 carbon tuned genius and also find the shock linkage bolts develop a slight creak after a while. For me, usually a strip, clean and degrease solves it for another 5/6 months.

The other slightly more annoying trait is the shock bolts working loose, even with thread lock applied, not sure if I'm alone with this?
