Hi All, After some help from the hive mind please. Between jobs at the moment which is a little limiting but various interviews shortly.

With Christmas etc I've not had too much chance to get out and about on the bike.

So should the gods align and I both achieve gainful employment and manage to delay starting for a few days then I want time for a mini trip / adventure.

I was thinking of heading to Scotland for a couple or 3 nights. I'm thinking probably car camping given the time of year. I'd consider bike packing, though locations where I could ride for the day then pick up extra gear from the car may make for both a better ride and a warmer night.

Good views, mountains snow and riding are the only things on the agenda. Given I'll be looking to go at very short notice I thought I'd ask for help from more frequent visitors.

Any one with routes gpx etc all the better.

Alternatively I'd consider Glentress or somewhere but are there any good remote wild camp spots near by?

Cheers in advance..

I love Dumfries and Galloway, although a canoe might be the preferred method of transport

Aviemore, loads of good routes, ask at Bothy Bikes.

However, at the moment be aware of flooding and high groundwater conditions after latest very heavy rains. All rivers are very high.

I'll keep an eye on the water levels thanks. I'm in Hebden Bridge so it's something of a hobby at the minute.

Any good locations for a bivvy camp? Thinking a good view for the morning cuppa.

Any bivvy spots near Glentress?

I would agree with North Cairngorm's area, and with the warning that river crossings could be 'fun', and the fact that across highlands area is due -10 and snow for the weekend and next week a bothy or youth hostel may be a good move.

If you want snow then your timing is about right. All of the ski areas are now gearing up for next week. If you only want it as part of your view then stick to low level and you'll still be fine.

Cairngorms is a good shout and you'll have the choice of making for the plateau or riding around their foothills. Good views are, basically, wherever you want them. If you're heading this way and want some bivvy ideas, PM me (email address in profile).

Glentress is really good but it's still a trail centre in the Borders. You'll get a flavour of Scotland without the same exposure to the mountains (and possibly weather). That could work in your favour. The Gipsy Glen route is one of the favourite off-piste rides.

Remember that access laws work in your favour up here so you could rock up almost anywhere and pitch a tent.

You might get some ideas from here; http://www.blog.scotroutes.com/
