no disrespect scotish STWers, am of to do the usual glentress etc in a few weeks and while I'll ride most stuff im not to keen on drop offs.
My question is, if I feel the need to bottle it do most of them have chicken runs?
Yes, they pretty much all have chicken runs. The chicken runs, dont tend to have chicken runs though. ๐

Saw a fair few scottish people sliding down the chicken runs dragging their brakes on Spooky Wood on Saturday. ๐
Depends where you are, GT red is very well loaded with chicken runs, though they're very boring. Spooky Woods by chicken run is really very dull for most of it. There's absolutely nothing on the red or black at GT that can't be rolled, though quite a lot of it is easier jumped or dropped.
Innerleithen has chicken runs on the biggest features, but not all. Still, everything can either be rolled or chickened, and it has various little steps and the like which are great confidence boosters. And there's no shame in it, the chicken runs are a little more interesting and the big drops are pretty big, my rule there was that if it had a chicken run it was there for a good reason, whereas GT does have plenty of chicken runs round features which don't really need it which is a bit of a shame.
There's chicken runs on spooky woods?
chicken runs in spooky woods? that place was easy, and all rollablre from memory, unless its changed dramatically?
Northwind - the log drop on the final black section at GT just after it splits from the red - that cant be rolled. I once tried and failed.
I thought Spooky Wood was the chicken run? ๐

I think maybe they do need it though - I went there for the first time on sat and was slightly shocked by the level of riding in display on the red run. I am certainly no riding god but a lot of people looked very unconfident and sketchy imo.
(Apart from in the freeride area where there were some really good people.)
It's obviously a good thing for loads of people to be getting out there and riding bikes on some good trails, but you can't help feeling it is going to mean they get dumbed down.

Yeah, it can. Though better dropped.
Not on my bike it cant.
Get a better bike then. ๐
The log thing definately can be rolled, I know because I lack the balls to drop it
It's higher at one side than the other though, could it be that giving you bother? Out of curiosity, what bike is it that can't do it? Very low BB or something?
Grumm, I think tbh anyone who really can't manage most of the features on spooky woods are going to run into trouble further down the trail, if you don't meet the standards needed then you're going to run out of luck sooner or later, and they can't build a chicken run round everything. It's a shame more people don't use pennel's vennel as a qualifier/test since it's ideal for that. Maybe a massive "DO THIS FIRST" sign is in order. Or maybe less wa**ers should take their noob mates up the red on their first visit? ๐
People just make their chicken line anyhow. You see a lot of pretty minor features with a new line created around it. The rocky chute bit on the black is a prime example. You used to have to go down the rock steps section, now there is a big arc around it and the last time I went do the rock steps it was covered in weeds as I'm guessing hardly anyone had been choosing that route.
Yeah, when I did first the black I was warned to watch for that chute and that I might want to do the chicken run, in the end I didn't even SEE the chute, I went down the chicken run without even knowing there was a choice.
