[Closed] Scotland MTB this weekend and no bike!

[#9571052]

Had some play in the back of my bike, hoped it might be something simple like a bottom bracket but feared the worst.

My LBS have told me not to ride it in Scotland this weekend, without going in to detail, it's knackered.

I'm looking in to what options I have for borrowing a bike but I may need to hire one, which would mean either collect locally to me (Huddersfield) on Thursday week and return on Monday, or collect en route to Drumlanrig on Friday and return on the way home on Sunday.

What are my options for hiring one?

All suggestions welcome!

Go on, go into detail. We insist 🙂

(As I've discovered, there's a huge amount of experience of bike maintenance experience on here and you never know what might come up...)

Rik at Drumlanrig will be able to sort you out.

Thanks daern / matt.

Fortunately one of the lads still has his old bike, so I'll be borrowing that.

The bearings have gone in the swing arm;
the bushings have gone in the rear shock;
fork is knackered.

I already knew about the fork!

There must be something else to it though? Replacing bearings and bushes is a couple of hours work (potentially less if just swingarm bearings)

Absolutely! Frame bearings may well be a "must" but unless the shock bushings are _really_ knackered, you can usually ride when they are worn. Fork can be harder to tell without seeing...

I'm probably not explaining it very well as I don't really understand it.

The guy said if I don't fix it then either it will die in Scotland or I will riding it! He said it would be over £200 to fix but if it was his bike he would strip it down and sell what he could, not worth fixing.

Maybe I'll take it somewhere else for a second opinion, but I'm ready for a new bike anyway!
