I'm thinking of Schwalbe Marathons - or the Plus variants - to go on a Kona Dew commuter - 25 miles a day, mostly on unlit cycle and tow paths. Really don't want to be trying to fix punctures in the dark in the winter, and keep hearing how good the Marathons are, but they seem to be quite weighty - is it worth it, or what else is puncture proof and comes in 700x32 format?
Cheers
there def not puncture proof i have managed 2 punctures, but this might be due to schwalbe 26" tubes being bigger than 26" and need folding to fit.
They are good though I have cycled through glass with no punctures. Maybe chuck some slim in a lightweight tyre?
i have the marathon plus and never had a puncture in 2 years.
might be heavier than normal tyres but i am willing to sacrifice that so i dont get a puncture.
I found them amazingly puncture proof and the weight is fine if there are no big hills or if there are hills and you want to get really fit for your light bike!
Got the Marathon Plus. Yeah, they're a bit heavy, but roll nice and are seriously puncture proof. Didn't that Scottish bloke that rode round the World use them?
marathon plus are brilliant.
I use them on my hybrid for work as cycle trainer.
Other hat, cycle shop: A customer came in, he'd had a nail go in one side, work its way round outside the kevlar but inside the tread and come out the other side of the tyre!
Marathon Plus' are fine for commuting, and if nothing else are a good "extra" workout for your legs.
The only time I'd be looking for "fast" tyres, would be on a race bike.
