Has anyone had chance to evaluate these two bikes? I am looking to buy one, and as quite a large chap, I am not sure the carbon is worth going for, the difference in weight is insignificant in what I could lose myself.
So is there any differences in stiffness, strength and ride between the two materials for this bike that I should consider
If it helps I am about to sell my Carbon Tallboy, its a complete bike, size large, drop me an email if vaguely of interest? I am now compelled to say the carbon is the far better option 😀 they definitely feel stiffer than ally, I will leave others to voice an opinion too.
sorry for the thread hijack...
It was the carbon bikes' maiden voyage last Sunday. I think the owner was very pleased indeed. Mine is the alu version and I am still very very happy after 2 years. From the small amount of comparison we did they ride very similarly as you'd expect - any difference was more to do with set-up. The carbon is 1-2lbs lighter and therefor maybe a little more sprightly from the off and up the hills. The carbon should be stiffer too but I can't say I have had any problems with a flexier rear end (probably don't ride it hard enough).
Hi MSP
I have for sale on eBay an XL Tallboy LT aluminium.
Only ridden about 6 times but it is a cracking ride and never noticed any flex.
eBay item number 301211028598.
Cheers
That carbon one above is mine, the picture is in Hope before we did the triple 8 with Cavedale bolted on the end. It was great, I love it. I managed to climb far more than normal and had so much more confidence on the downhills.
As Mr snapper says there is probably not a great deal of difference bar the weight and I probably lost more than the difference following the curry the night before. But I had decided that I wanted a carbon bike, fortunately I managed to faff and procrastinate for long enough and time it perfectly that the Santa Cruz guys did the 2013 carbon frame for a very good price.
it is a cracking ride
Not the best terminology!
Awesome ride! Any better???
Carbon here. Been all over on mine, rode it for 2 different weeks in Spain, smashed one up, got another as a frame replacement.
Mine was a PPI payout, I have no urge to move it on, and really can't imagine wanting to as it does what I want incredibly efficiently.
I always kind of think if you're spending over £2k on a push bike frame, you might as well get the one you really want. I occasionally wish I'd bought my Yeti in carbon.
Having said that, if you're a serial bike swapper it's possibly not so relevant.
Awesome ride!
That better?
