I remember in issue 46 there was an article on the riding (Wade Simmons was in it) in Sardinia.
I'm now overseas so don't have my copy anymore but seem to remember there was website/e-mail details of the guiding company. Can anyone help me out by posting the details? + any other relevant info that anyone has would be greatly appreciated....
...doesn't seem to be a great deal of info on the web...
This is a guy on here, he has a few video heavy threads about rocky trail skills if the search is working, im sure he will be along in a mo...

Hi, this is Peter. I have a copy of the article but there's no guiding company mentioned apart from "Roberto": it's really setting up cool FR photo shoots in the Masau area in the SW of the island. If you want I can send you it.
We (3 of us: me, Amos and Davide/Davis) are currently writing a guide to mountain biking in Sardinia. I am coordinating it all and looking after the centre-east region where we live. David (looking after the centre of the island) and Amos (SE, SW, W) I got to know when I asked for help last year in documenting trails round where we live...and now we're doing a guidebook. The work is going well. They provided the descriptions which we put onto the main Italian forum www.mtb-forum.it run by Marco Toniolo (who wrote the Simmons article) and I then translated them into English. See eg http://itinerari.mtb-forum.it/tours/view/2220 and http://itinerari.mtb-forum.it/tours/view/2218 Through mtb-forum.it we organise rides here, there are sub-groups for each region of Italy. Some of the rides I organised last autumn are to Cala Sisine, Gorroppu and Talana, all less than an hour's drive from where we live and all great days out. I'm also VP of "mountainbike Ogliastra".
What sort of thing are you looking for?
cheers Peter
Thanks for the info Peter,
We're looking at taking our honeymoon in Sardinia in April (hopefully it won't be too hot to ride?).
Will the water be warm enough for swimming at that time of year? I presume there are some good trekking options into the bigger mountains too?
We'll be on the island for up to 10 days but will probably only ride 2 or 3 times.
We love technical, rocky singletrack so it looks like there is a fair bit of that on offer near to you!
Perhaps we could get you to guide us on a couple of rides when we're over?
Is there anyone doing any sort of uplift service? - we don't mind doing a fair bit of climbing (and have 5/6inch travel xc/all mountain bikes) if needed, but would like to also get the maximum amount of fun out of our trip!
The guidebook that you're writing sounds like a great idea, It looks like the scene over there is really taking off.
"We're looking at taking our honeymoon in Sardinia in April" Good for you both ๐
"hopefully it won't be too hot to ride?" No, we ride all year round, in summer up in the mountains. The weather here is generally good all year round. Today I was climbing without a shirt at a low-down sheltered crag. April is fine for riding.
"Will the water be warm enough for swimming at that time of year?" a bit chilly but I am a bit nesh
"I presume there are some good trekking options into the bigger mountains too?" Yes, and on the coast. By March the english translation of the new Rother guide should be available

"We love technical, rocky singletrack so it looks like there is a fair bit of that on offer near to you!" Yes near to us is very good for this. See also MTBOgliastra's videos
"Perhaps we could get you to guide us on a couple of rides when we're over?" If you stay in this area and we don't have other commitments, I'd be more than happy to ride with you. We run a B&B/self-catering accommodation for climbers, bikers etc (see ad p124 of latest STW mag) and our first priority is looking after our guests. But as you see I/we are keen to develop things here, so I ride with people who sound interesting to ride with ("We love technical, rocky singletrack" qualifies you ) if I haven't got other commitments.
"Is there anyone doing any sort of uplift service? - we don't mind doing a fair bit of climbing (and have 5/6inch travel xc/all mountain bikes) if needed, but would like to also get the maximum amount of fun out of our trip!" We do this free for our guests, we have a Renault Trafic van. Otherwise you can put your bikes on the bus.
"The guidebook that you're writing sounds like a great idea, It looks like the scene over there is really taking off." In mid-December 100 of us from all over Sardinia were riding one Sunday at Nuoro, the events organised through MTB forum get loads of people...there is a really good scene already. Where we live, we get lots of Italians in the summer when they come on holiday to Sardinia (famous for its beaches). Sardinia is not very known though to English-speakers. this though is changing with the new guidebooks coming out.
if you want more info (I am interested that people have a good time here) email me peter@peteranne.it
ciao e Congrats on your wedding
