Afternoon all,
I am trying to replace the bearings on my blur lt but for the life of me I can't remove the lower axle on the upper link. I have followed the instructions but the non drive side starts to bow and the axle doesn't come out. I have tried tapping but it won't move. Any suggestions please?
Cheers
Ah, joy! I had the same problem in the end after hours of trying I had to take it to the LBS to remove it. The managed faily easily. The only thing I can suggest is removing everything so it can lie down flat on a hard surface, find a tap that is the same size as the axle,( maybe try a bit of WD40 or simlar, on it to help a bit.)and hammer like hell!
Unhelpful really, but I know the pain! Changing the bearings a bit more often, before everything corrodes together is what I learnt...And be patient when loctite-ing the bearings back in is also a good tip, wait loctite it then wait for a while before putting it back together.
I had this on my mk1 - your supposed to pop the axles out every 6 months to regrease. I phoned jungle to find out what they recommended - basically s couple of blocks of wood, a suitable sized socket and a big hammer.
If you trying to give it a bit of a whack in a stand, the stand can take a lot of impact so rest the triangle on some blocks of wood (with a towel round to protect paint) put the socket in and give it a whack. It will come out! Give it a soak in wd40 or whatever over night helps
You'll probably need a new axle if it's that badly stuck - a tenner I think
think your self lucky - i had a job on a blur LT once whos axel was so badly stuck the axel wore through , snapped and wrote off his shock body also ...
and then to remove the bearings :S
This sounds like loads of fun, I wish I had never started. I have given up for today, sprayed a load of wd40 on it and will leave it tomorrow.
I will have a look for socket small enough and give it a go. It would be easier if teh axles weren;t hollow as well.
Small metal tube or long socket that the axle will slide into(measure by eye), m6 length of threaded bar, m6 nut and some washers. Screw bar into axle, slide tube/socket down bar, washer n nut on, tighten and voila gently pull out the axle. No bashing, banging or swearing.
its supposed to be easier with the vpp bearing press kit but its not - i had that and still resorted to a hammer and punch to get the bits out - most of the bearings came out in pieces and needed hit alot harder than youd want to
