Just thought I would bring this to everyones attention. I've done it for the last 2 years and it's been brilliant.
Choose between a 25K or 46K route in the lake district, starting from Staveley, and taking in Longsleddale, Kentmere and Troutbeck. Long route does the infamous Garburn pass.
It's always well organised & properly marshalled, even in the back of beyond. There are feeding stations/check points, fab weather and best of all, money raised goes to charity.
Date this year is 11th June. Check out the website

I've just done the Whinlatter Enduro [2 laps] which was a big test for me. It showed how unfit i am, but will do more training. How tough is the Sam Houghton race compared to Whinlatter?
I wouldn't say the Sam was harder or easier than the whinlatter challenge. It is certainly more technical and proficient descenders do have plenty of opportunity to make time up on the descents on the XC race whippets. I prefer the start format of the Sam as it totally avoids any bottlenecks and overtaking is easier.
i really think alot of people underestimate how fast us 'xc whippets' descend. I like to class myself as an xc whippet and as far as i recall havent ever held anyone up or been slow on descents. In fact, total opposite, i generally can make some time up on descents.
that is all
we are humbled and you should really class yourself as a riding god :wink
Usually that is sarcasm but it is probably accurate in your case.
your very accurate 😆
