How many of you have rubbing disc brakes, I have avid elixir brakes on my stumpy and I have tried everything to stop them rubbing and they just wont stop rubbing, is this just something I have to live with.
Is there anybody else who has this problem?
This hope video Is very helpfull in setting up the pistons properly which should stop the rubbing. Made a difference to me and the principle is the same for all brakes.
IMO if there is somethng rubbing there is something wrong but I only use hope brakes myself. All mine run freely with no rubbing
Can you be a bit more specific?
Are they new or old? Original pads or aftermarket? Have you bled them? Are they just skimming the rotors or stopping the wheel rapidly?
Tried realigning your calipers?
Loosen nuts, spin wheel, pull brake lever, repeat a few times, then holding the lever down tighten the nuts and that should do it
My avids are a bstard to align but once they're right they don't rub at all
Rudeboy, I have done that mate, thanks.
Stumpy pads are 6 months old on my 09 stumpy which I bought back in march.
I have just ordered new pads, I have never bled my brakes.
Spoke to local bike shop today, they said they will bleed both brakes and fit my new pas for £30.
Hopefully this will fix the problem as its annoying me!
Dan.
take out the pads, push the pistons out, use silicon lube around the back of the pistons and push back in, this lets the pistons slide back and forth a lot better.
dont buy hayes brakes, they're rubbish. good power and stuff, but they are hopeless for breaking.
I've got Juicy 7s and they were fine until I replaced the pads. Then they rubbed like mad. Turned out the aftermarket pads were causing the binding. Most aftermarket pads have painted backing plates for some reason and the extra thickness of the paint around the edge of the pad meant that they weren't retracting correctly.
My LBS recommended that I remove this layer of paint (I used a scalpel), reset the calipers and they were fine from then.
I think that Avids are renowned for having binding pistons that can cause the pads not to retract & bind. Hopefully the LBS will sort them out with a rebleed.
