Where's the screw to remove the collar at the bottom of the boot? Is it under the boot somewhere? (Boot seems to be attached at the bottom)
Do you mean to get the collar off the post or to detach the collar from the boot? I've got a dismantled one in the garage so I can have a look after I've taken the kids to school.

I'm trying to strip the post down so whatever needs doing really

If it's just to take it apart then you just unscrew the collar.
hmmm mine seems to be stuck fast
Try gripping it with a piece of inner tube.

Hair drier helps too... Warm the collar up a bit (careful not to melt the boot!). The boot tucks in between bush and collar.
I ended up using a strap wrench on it. You don't need to do it back up very tight though!
