Has anyone upgraded their SID 35 to the flight attendant damper? Was it worth it and what do you like/dislike about it?
I haven't but must say I am intrigued as the costs of the damper upgrade are falling. The need for the additional sensor for the cranks (unless you already have a compatible power meter) does add about another £100 or so - unless I am missing something.
The fork I have needs a new damper (standard charger race day lockout breaking issue, works as a damper but no lockout). The FA damper is available significantly cheaper than the normal damper which is what peaked my interest (yes the control module is a fair chunk more). The SRAM only PM might be the killer for me, I incorrectly thought my 4iiii crank PM could be used. Cranks are XTR so not much chance of getting the pedal sensor in them.
ah, now - that lockout does break, does it? the one on the fork, not handelbar, I presume? I often wonder about how fragile it seems. time to stop using it you reckon? I can't afford to replace any bike bits at the moment, if it did break …
The race day version 1 damper does yes, and yes its inside the damper which is 'fun' to dismantle. The common failure mode is the seal in the lockout top hat apparently, this is the replacement part; https://www.tradeinn.com/bikeinn/en/rt-parts-race-day-top-421661190-bike-fork-top-cap/143489298/p . Mine has failed by the little peg snapping off but the spring has also been damaged. Normal damping operation was fine just no lock out.
ok, ta. yeah looks fiddly that. i'm going to stop locking out, then. the little lever/switch thing always feels it's only barely attached to any actual mechanism at the best of times.
I'll add some internal pics when I have time but yes the bit above is 'connected' to a small part that is turned the lever using that brass pin. The pin moves in two channels so as the connection part rotates it pulls the silver cap up and down. It's all small and not so robust! If I could find out if a pike charger 2 rct3 damper had the same top cap thread I'd be tempted to fit that instead.
