Like many, we're hard up at the moment; however, we've been very lucky to be offered, by some friends, a free holiday in their cottage in Dartmouth in the summer....

...our usual holiday plans involve a good few miles of MTB'ing, so....

...any ideas on any good, family friendly, routes in the area??

....all things considered, railway paths, sustrans type stuff as well as natural trails???

Help appreciated

for family stuff there's a nice cycle path along the river from totnes to ashprington and you may be able to link the dartmouth- ashprington section off road. if not, there are some resonably quietish lanes to use. slugwash is the sherpa for this area so hopefully he'll be along to advise.

crossing over the river to the torbay side would offer more options but it's hellish steep to climb out from the dartmouth ferry. i don't know if you can take bikes on the dittisham ferry but if you can then that would be an easier way to get over to torbay.

A few years ago took my bike on the Dittisham ferry no problem. I would think it's still the same.

The Dittisham ferry was still taking bikes a week or two ago..... ๐Ÿ™‚

Velocipede, the local tourist information centres sell a small pamphlet of MTB routes* in the South Hams area with a strong bias on Dartmouth.

*probably not particularly family friendly though, it's hilly terrain!
