Anyone owned one or have any thoughts on them?

I loved my ETSX, it climbed like a goat and there was no chainslap on the descents, which was nice!

It's head angle was fairly steep, which means it doesn't descend as well as others, but a high BB height was useful when climbing in the saddle.

Nice bike, not so good for heavier riders due to seat-tube rocker failures. Iirc.

Had one of the first frames. I'm 72kg and it eventually broke after 6 years. Tbh I didn't like the steep head angle. Zesty much better bike. Stump was to.

I always liked them and Lesley Tomlinson use to do well racing one. What put me off buying one was all the stories about them breaking when I was looking into them.

Great bike loved mine to pieces, great climber and did two Alps trips on mine so head angle not too much of a hinderance! Only just swapped it for a Yeti ASR5 (18" frame set for sale if you're interested!

Right about the steep head angle - also high bottom bracket, mine felt unwieldy at low speeds.
Truly, the best climbing bike I've ever owned though, the read wheel grip is phenomenal.

The crack/break problem was only an issue with the early models. Newer ones have a larger diameter seat tube and are reinforced around the top pivots where the crack occurred.

i had one of the early ones which was loverly, it snapped after 2.5yrs on the seat tube between the pivots.
Silverfish (importers) sorted me out with a replacement frame with the beefed up seatpost, slightly slacker head angle and again a fantastic bike, survived trans-wales, transportugal and La Ruta.
That snapped just below all the beefing up plates on the seat tube indicating where the new weak point was
I was out of warranty by that stage but Silverfish offered me a new front triangle free of charge or 50% off an Element, took the element option as I fancied a change

so overall the ETSX is great to ride, the adjustable suspension works although i really think you need to play around with shock pressures to get it to work right at 4". Mine weighed in a 7lbs with headset which I think is pretty hefty. if the last one hadn't broken I'd still be riding it

i have an edge (predecessor to the etsx) and it's an excellent bike. climbs well (even better with custom valved shock)

i also snapped mine and rock mountain (via silverfish) custom painted a new set of chain stays to match mine, great service (was a known issue)

I had one. echo above.

Great climber but steep head angle.

Also very little standover as the top tube isn't kinked. I'm 5ft 8 and could only just stand over an 18" but they are quite short on the top tube so you need to go large.

Fantastic climber though. Sold mine but always fancy one as a second bike.
