Looking at a set of Rockshox forks for sale locally, not much info given on the listing, I asked him for the serial number and results showed this

https://ibb.co/xM2gcmN

https://ibb.co/W5Wm4Y7

https://ibb.co/gj7ZPS7

seller doesn’t seem to think it has had any parts replaced, should I be wary?!

the serial number

What's the digit between the 0 & 2? that might be the issue?

Straight steerered, debadged somethings with gold stanchions? Yeah I'd be very wary, they're what 15 years old and the current owner doesn't know the provenance of them? The chances of them being junk are high.

Don’t think the serial number search will work with a fork that old.

From the amount of stanchion showing I assume it’s an old Reba (SL?). So motion control damper and a dual air spring. Not much to go wrong with them. However that Maxle appears to be missing parts, not sure if you’d be able to get that usable again

he’s not sure as the forks are “stored at my brothers house”

would something to replace it be easily found somewhere?

I’ve asked the seller if he has any more info about them so will see what he comes back with but am erring on the side of leaving it alone at the minute

thanks for the the replies so far

You might end up spending £30-40 to replace a maxle, can be hard to find the exact part, so you end up spending £10 on postage from Germany, etc

Mashr has it in my mind.... forks are too old. Be interesting to know when the serial number checker was effective from though

Alltricks.com have quite a few straight steerer forks in stock if that's what you need.

Thanks all, the seller does seem a little too sketchy on the forks details so think I’ll pass on these as I’m only loosely looking at the minute

@honourablegeorge thanks for the heads up, will have a scour

Too old for the online checker

They were produced week 23, 2009 (if that helps at all)

The dismantled maxle and crown race left on the fork also not knowing what the fork model is tells me the seller is a bit clueless or sketchy af

If the maxle has the dimensions on it then you can probably fine a suitable Brand-x replacement for about 15 quid.
