Hi all

A request for help, my rockshox reba dual airs popped the left hand seal tonight while riding, I assume it probably means it needs a good service but if anyone has any other ideas please shout! It has needed the negative spring pumping up regularly recently.

I'm partaking in the Dorset Gravel Dash at the weekend so could really do with a set of forks! Does anyone know anywhere locally that are competent at servicing forks?

Cheers

If you mean it popped the left hand wiper seal out fo the lower leg then it sounds like the seal head at the bottom of the upper leg has leaked, and allowed air from the negative chamber into the lower leg, pressurising it and popping it out of the lower leg on compression.

Good news is it's likely an easy fix, just replacing the o-rings/seal should do it, but you might as well do the others while you're at it, what year fork is it? Sounds like an older Reba?

I can't recommend anywhere specifically in Taunton (I'm further down in Exeter and not familiar with shops in Taunton) but if you ring round local shops and see if any of them have anything useful to say based on your description your might find someone willing to do it at short notice.

If not then as a worst case situation you should be able to re-fit the wiper seal and run that fork with little/almost no pressure in the negative chamber, I'll behave similar to a Solo Air version of the same era, and the low pressure in the negative chamber means it'll be less likely to blow the wiper seal out again. As long as the rest of the seals are in tact it should be OK for your ride...

Yep had this happen to me on a set of dual air revs. TF Tuned said it was a relatively comman thing. The o rings perish and air leaks into the lowers abs eventually popping the main seal off. A normal service with new o rings usually solves the problem.

If you can get hold of the o rings it is a relatively simple job. Just take your time and keep everything in order you took it off so it's easy to reassemble. Just takes a bit of time first time you do it but each step is easy enough.

If you can't get hold of the rings then just clean and reassemble everything and cross your fingers.

Lots of you tube vids and guides online should help.

Thanks guys, cleaned everything, oiled and greased with correct stuff from tf. All o rings look fine but were totally dry however the positive spring was absolutely packed with bright red grease! Took a whole rags worth of wiping to get it clean. Anyway, it's pumped up to pressure now positive and negative and if it's still holding air in the morning I'll take it to be fixed until I can order some new o rings.

As a bonus I've extended them out to 120mm which is something I've wanted to try on my inbred for a while.

For ref they are 2009 reba RL model.

I called Sam at Amped, all he did was lecture me on not taking my suspension apart and tell me that it would all be buggered now I'd opened them and to give it to him along with my wallet after he's had a week to get parts in because my fork is so old and outdated and should just be replaced really.

All I'd asked was if he had the correct o rings in stock.

Not exactly what I'd call helpful or living up to the following he has among the guys I ride with. Reminded me why I teach myself to service as much as possible on the bike.
