I got this set up. I mostly like it, but nothing is perfect for every situation.
I wear torso protection most rides, and have owned many differnt ones over the years.
I like that the protective pads are way more vented than anything else out there. I also like that the protection extends all the way down the back, and along the side of the ribs. Many back protectors lack that coverage.
I also really like the pockets, placed outside the pads, so I’m not worried about landing on an hard item in my pocket and causing more injury.
It runs long, which is great for tall people like myself, but might be a negative for short riders.
The one thing I don’t understand is the decision to have the shoulder pads in a baselayer The shoulder pads should be part of the vest, with open armpits.If the shoulder pads were part of the protector , you could wear it over a baselayer and wash that, just as they describe.
With the current system, while the pads are more open and breathable than others, the baselayer fabric is thicker and warmer, than my Race Face one for example, and the unpadded parts of the vest have mesh the same as my RF one. So, on those areas, you actually have 2 layers of fabric.
Add the fact that the baselayer is a jersey fabric, so a bit warmer and less open than the mesh used in the vest part or in the Race face or Fox protectors, and the net amount of warmth is about the same.
They say this allows you to choose whether you want the shoulder pads or not. When would I want that? If it’s so hot, or I want to save weight so badly, that I ditch the shoulder pads, I’d also be choosing a very minimalist back protector, not the super full coverage Rockintor.
If the shoulder pads were part of the vest, I could wear it over a jersey or shirt, or wear a baselayer under it.
