I was out on the Airdop at the weekend, enjoying the sunshine, and managed to bash my donwtube while hopping a log.
Obviously this reminded me that I was going to fit some sort of 'downtube protection' over the RideWrap frame protection BUT I never have gotten around to it 🤨Â
What do you use? Would you recommend it? Should I just tie-wrap a bit of old tyre in place?
OR
Stop worrying about it, improve my technique and just enjoy the ride?

It's a metal bike just ride it.Â
Please don't wrap a good looking frame with an old tyre.
I used a lizard skin on my Airdrop until I got a big dent just Infront of the bottom bracket.
I now use the rockstopmtb linked above. Seems to do a better job than anything equivalent to a think sticker.
Don't bother with the Zefal one. Useful material to stop rattles etc but far too soft/thin to offer any downtube protection.
Nukeproof ones for their Mega290 / Gige / etc used to be fairly generic and were a good, dense rubber and fitted most downtubes. Hard to find now obviously but there's usually some on ebay.
This stuff is good, very tough, sticks well (has lasted over 10 years on my carbon Rocky Mountain) and you only need to cover the underside of the downtube with it

I have the AMS stuff, seems to do the job as the Taco bash ring next to it looks well used.
Used a single strip of thick helitape on the downtube of my ali Bird.Â
The paint chips either side of the tape from rocks are either an example of my spectacular bad luck, or an example of that meme with the WW2 aircraft with bullet damage.
The ZTTO one is brilliant. Only a available on AliExpress at the moment for some reason.Â
