[#2672443]

Unable to avoid it, I find myself having to spend a night in Godalming tomorrow

I have 2 choices
Sit in the bar listening to my colleagues do nothing but spew cheesy, corporate BS all night

or ........

I pack a road bike [don't have a MTB I can use right now] and clear off for a couple of hours
Are there any quietish roads around there between 6 & 8pm?
Given my previous trips there, I suspect not, last time I was there it was wall to wall X5s & Audis squeezing you all the time but I'm hoping I just picked the wrong roads

You did. There's plenty of back roads. Can't do tomorrow night, but head out of Godalming towards Guildford, through Shalford and Chilworth (which will be reasonably busy, but not unpleasantly so IMO) then up into the hills from Albury, some great riding up there.

Flat = explore the back roads to Farnham > Hindhead etc

Hilly = Cross the A281 and head up into the Surrey Hills, e.g. Bramley > Chilworth > Albury > Peaslake > Holmbury > Leith Hill > Ewhurst > Cranleigh

Loads of country lanes to explore and generally remain away from traffic.
