First road bike on way shortly and wonder what pedals it might be worth considering or stick with MTB pedals/ shoes?
First ride on mine this morning, stuck with mtb pedals & shoes coz I don't want another pair of cycling shoes & quite like upsetting those that care about such things
I have rode both SPD and various types of road pedals for years and can't tell the difference.
I've had my road shoes for ages as they don't wear out very quick like mtb shoes.
Use Crankbros Candys on Road and mtb so I don't have to get another pair of shoes!
You can use your mtb shoes and pedals if you want, this is what I did for a good while (about a year?), then when I had the cash bought some proper road shoes and some lovely Look Keo Carbons. The proper shoes and pedals are nicer, stiffer and more comfortable on longer rides with the bigger platform. What you do will probably come down to how much money you want to spend.
Just use whatever MTB system you currently have - some other riders might sneer at you a bit though...
In fairness my road bike is an old Ellsworth flight so I think the MTB pedals suit it 🙂
Using shimano spds or flats on the mtb, flats on the bmx, spds on the winter road bike, ultegera spd-sl road pedals on the nice road bike.
Road pedals do make a difference. Is that difference worth getting a new set of pedals and shoes? No, not really. Unless you're going to be doing some serious racing.
Does anyone care if you run spds on a road bike? No. Rule #34 is more about flat pedals I think, which obviously do not belong on a road bike.
