I've got an FSA Vero triple on my commuter. I'm thinking of ditching it. I've got a couple of questions though and thought you guys might be able to help out.

If I've got triple shifters, can I run a double chainset and just wind the limit screw down on the front mech?

Is there any real difference between a 9 speed triple and a 10 speed triple?

thanks.

For the front mech, there shouldn't be a problem, as you say it's just a limit screw question.
Is there any difference between squeezing 10 cogs into a space that was previously occupied by 9? Apart from a narrower chain and less space between cogs, no real difference. Why is the difference between 9 and 10 important?

I was just wondering if Shimano had slimmed down the spacing on the front as well to force people into buying a new chainset as well.

Just wanted to know if the chainring spacing was the same.

Cheers.

I've got you now, sorry. I was thinking about changing a triple to double like I've just done on the mtb. Scrub what I said then, unless it turns out to be correct.

Sorry, just re-read my original post and realised I've not even mentioned that it's a road bike.

It's a road compact triple and I'm looking for a replacement. I don't use the granny ring so a double would do it. All the triples seem to be ten speed now so I was wondering if there was actually any difference.

It was me having a blonde moment, I've just been to do a rudimentary measure of my Campagnolo and the space between chain wheels is about 5-6mm, I can't see Shimano being much different.
The rear will be independant of what happens up front, except the 10sp will have a narrower chain which might not/probably won't fit non specific 10sp chainwheels.
