[#2544115]

I am looking for a secondhand road bike for my brother. Something for someone new to road biking.

I think this might be a good bet as I think it has slightly more relaxed geometry (more upright position) and a triple chainset good for the hills in Yorkshire where he lives.

So what I am looking for is a road bike not a touring bike but something comfortable and with low enough gearing for someone new to the road.

Are there any other similar bikes I could keep an eye out for secondhand?

Spesh Roubaix for the carbon option, Cannondale Synapse, Giant Defy, most other bikes that are branded or marketed as "audax" bikes should have more upright positions.

Bear in mind that just flipping the stem ofn a raod bike can make a big difference to the position.

Gearing wise, make sure it has a compact front chainset (50-34) or *whispers* a triple.......

Thanks for that, definatley looking for a triple and should have mentioned that secondhand budget likely to be around £300-400 so looking to pick up something someone has got bored of but still probably a bit hopeful to get a Cannondale Synapse for that money.

Off to look at Giant defy now.

Some classified sniffing/bike soup lurking/ebay watching should track down something for £300-400 I'd have thought
