[Closed] Road Bikes and High Viz?

Who wears high viz stuff when riding road bikes? Does it depend on what time of day you are riding?

Just wondering as it really makes riders stand out when you are driving, even in daylight, and i'm thinking of buying something to make me a bit shinier! Any recommendations?

The reason for this is surprising myself after completely overlooking a cyclist the other day, who was wearing dark clothes in dusky light conditions- scared myself more than him i think!

J

EDIT: and before you ask i've got perfectly good eyesight, a clean license etc etc etc

Rules of the road are that you wear as much black clothing as possible. If you look like a ninja in training you got it just right.

i did wear one on my mtb commute though i did feel a bit of a ar5e. I've gone over to the dark side this year though but i don't think i can do it on the road bike, vanity over safety, sad but true!

I wear a hi-viz vest when it is dark outside, together with hi-viz arm-bands. When the evenings start getting darker I only wear the arm bands.

I have also stuck Scotch reflective strips to the forks and seatstays of my bike.

How's that?

Oops! Forgot to add that I mainly ride my roadie after work, so during the winter it is obviously dark.

Yes when commuting but not out on proper road rides during the day. Mainly because non of my nice kit is high vis. Occasionally run lights and try and stick to coloured rather than black jerseys.

i have a hi viz ankleband hanging from my backpack (which has scotch thingy bungee cords) and another ankleband on my right ankle. you gotta give the 'tards maximum opportunity to see you.

I've been thinking about getting something more visible for low light conditions on my commute, but obviously a flappy Altura high viz dustman jacket isn't a good look when you're a stylish roadman. I'm very tempted by Mavic's high viz gillet: a nice fitted roadie cut, but in bright orange with scotchlite strips.
