Looking at a (budget) road bike with an aluminium fork. Do they give a 'harsh' ride? Ive only ever ridden carbon forks before on a road bike.

I'd be asking what size tyre it takes.

Recently converted my hybrid to a 'road' bike with drops, it has a rock solid alu frame and steel Project 2 forks. With 32c tyres on it feels like a plush comfy limo.

EDIT light weight supple 32c tyres mind. Not reinforced commuter jobs.

^as above. Tyre makes way more difference (alu and carbon fork owner here)

It can take up to 28c tyres. Not going to be used for anything other that shortish <2hr rides to keep up some fitness.

+1 on they tyres. Unless you're going to end up with something unrideably noodly, your fork isn't going to take much of the sting out. Some nice supple 28s will be fine.
