Barn, Gardens, Pike, Kennels, Two Lads, Winter Hill, San Marino to Belmont, Witton Weavers way to Tockholes, Lyons Den or Step Bank to Darwen Tower, Roddlesworth Woods, Picadilly, Great Hill, White Coppice, Healy Nab, Rivi.

I thought I had a JPEG of the route on my Flikr site, but I cant find it. I'll do one tonight for you if I get chance.

Have a shufty here in the meantime see what you can cobble together.

Good route Lowey, couple laps of healy nabb on the way home when your ****ed out ya skull is always entertaining.

If you avoid the Great Hill and come out of the wood at Abbey village, cross the road, a small road section uphill and you have a cracking down hill though some pine forests that brings you to a realy technical single track with rocks which brings you out at the bottom of the decent at White Coppice near the cricket club if you know where I mean, defo worth it.

Done both routes and this is better IMHO, both radtastic though. ๐Ÿ˜€

Edit oops bit tight with the cropping there but you get the idea

(loweys route goes straight on up the road near the blue 63 and onto wheelton moor, when you see a flight of steps on your right ride down them into white coppice, which is a good downhill when it's dry)

You cannot really to the proper commonwealth games route as it goes through private farmland. However, you can use a road and bridleway which goes up through Wilderswood (which is better as a descent really). The route then went along georges lane, into the gardens a bit and then down what they called "Snake bite alley" which is better as a climb really (in other words, they did the route the wrong way round!!) down to the school.

Or... as Loweys route BUT:
Barn, Gardens, Pike, Kennels, Two Lads, Winter Hill, San Marino to Belmont, Witton Weavers way to Tockholes, Lyons Den or Step Bank to Darwen Tower, Roddlesworth Woods, right down Belmont Rd towards Abbey Village looking out for the hidden turning on the left, through to Fox's woodyard, out onto Rd near Withnell, turn left, at Y junction turn left, first left onto moor, follow track for about 3/4 mile and take indistinct path on right leading eventually to ruined farmhouse, then onto cracking track over Wheelton moor, and then when you are behind Great Hill do White Coppice, Healy Nab, Rivi.

Sounds a bit complicated but you can make it out on Donk's map.

Bearing in mind that the descent toWhite Coppice will be ok while it's frozen but when it thaws it's a boggy nightmare at the moment.

Think the road at the bottom of belmont res is still shut as there doing some work (may be open now) so you would need to take the right hand turn at the bottom before the village, few different ways to get on witton, either straight over at next junction then farm track on right or take the left at junction and join back onto the route as above round the bottom right of the res.

[s]it's possible to bypass the blockade at belmont res, but pretty tricky if you're on your own.[/s] no that's irresponsible, go round the long road way.
