Rims arriving damaged

I orders some rims for a commuter wheel build. The first pair arrived and were unfortunately scratched.

After a bit of a drawn out process - a doorstep swap with the courier didn't happen, the damaged ones were taken away on Wednesday, and the replacements delivered today - the replacements have arrived and they too are damaged.

Another damaged rim

I am sure that these rims must be damaged BEFORE being packed, so that it 4 out of 4 rims that have been dispached in a damaged state. It is a bit frustrating as I have the spokes and the hubs, and just need to get on with the build. An MTB rim will get beat up with stone-strike etc over time, but not the commuter, so I'd prefer cosmetically decent ones to start with.

I've let the retailer know, and when they get back in touch I am going to ask that another swap is done, but the rims are carefully checked before being dispatched. Anything else I should do?

That looks like some spoke damage from failed builds. Were they cheap?

Sorry, images seem to have disappeared. Were linked from Google Images, and did work at first.

Yes. Looks like clumsy spoking to me. Were £20 ish each. Just a budget eyeletted disc rim for an Alfine + Bosch Active Line + commuter.

Yeah thats build damage. Wheelbuilder instructed me when putting the end of the spoke through the hole to put a thumb over the end to prevent such a thing happening. Which is why its really obvious thats whats caused it.

Can see the pictures now. The finish on those rims must be really weak to scratch that badly during a build. I'd probably look for something else, but then of course the spokes may not be right... Tricky.

Update: current scratched ones are being collected Thursday. New ones coming from supplier, and should be checked before being sent out, probably be the end of next week. I think the supplier might be Raleigh.
