my main bike now

90+% of my annual off-road miles are on this or a rigid SS CX. The HT 29er gets about 100 miles a year.

My salsa el mariachi is rigid. Just built it as a winter bike and not take it any where rough

But it's been fine tracks nicely just have to think a bit on some stuff
And even made of steel and Useing spare bits it's 25 lb

My local riding tends to be as much Tarmac as woodland

My hardtail has been in bits in the garage for about 8 months now. Just ride my Karate Monkey offroad these days - it gets properly hammered as well.

I'm old enough to have started riding offroad on a fully rigid 700C bike though so it's full circle!

bought a kona unit 2 months ago as i fell in love with a rigid ss 26 but needed somthing to fit me better, was great for the local stuff in bristol. had to buy a set of 80mm travel forks after my first day at afan, my hands ached for two days after, decided it wasn't worth my joints riding rigid on big boy stuff

Treated myself to this recently...

But this was almost as nice by the time I discovered Singular's lovely steel forks from the Swift frameset...

Fully rigid works great on a 29er. As said, it makes you think about your line choice again. For me, preferable to ploughing through with 5" of travel each end soaking up bad line choices. Plus, there's something great about getting up out the saddle when climbing.

It's my first and only proper mountain bike. It seems to work fine. I am considering some suspension forks, but haven't tried them yet

How much are these rings Tazzy, they sound quite interesting 🙂 I presume they are like Rotor Q rings without the £140 price tag? I can't find how to PM on this forum anymore 🙁

All my off-road riding is on a rigid 29er, mostly Chilterns & Wales. The only time I've ever wanted some squishy forks was at Cwmcarn...after a while the constant bumpy surface wasn't much fun.

Annother happy swift owner, beware though, they have a detrimental effect on your motivation for riding other more expensive bikes!

Couldn't get on with rigid forks on mine. I've been loving it far more since I put a Manitou Minute on the front.

Get the widest rims you can - 35mm+ this will enable you to run 18/20psi with 2.4" tyres - and not be squirmy, or get pinch flats. I had my front tyre down to 17psi for added comfort! i'd also recommend a half fat setup.

I reckon that with fuel prices the way they are, my rigid 29er SS will be the only bike I ride.
Theres nowt worthy of a full suss round by me in sleepy Warwickshire.

Pics to follow when I collect the new frame tomoz 😀

They are pretty much all I ride, though there are occasions I don't mind a bit of squish. I find 'alt' bars a great help riding rigid - really not such a fan of rigid with flat bars. The angle of your wrists and arms really helps absorb bumps more easily.

Same as Sam here, I tried Niner & Sunnline flats but not for me. Liked the Niners but riding rigid I really like a non O/S low-rise carbon bar to put a bit of flex in with rigid forks. Feels good with a 50mm stem to quicken the steering up a bit.

anyone know of the biggest 29" that fits a normal fork. 3" inch maybe?

some great bikes here I love the idea of back to basics , I'm thinking of a genisis fortitude , it's £1250 and some shops do 0% finance 🙂 but do I sell my hardcore hardtail with 140 mm forks ? I do like the maintenance free approache and I live in the chilterns !

Richie - you live in the perfect place for it. I went rigid forks then 29er there and it makes the most of the trails, I love it.
