Currently got a slightly swollen Achilles, not painful to touch and not stopping me doing much, but kind of always there.

Upped the running a bit this week, and had a fast blast on the fixed gear (spds, never been completely happy with the positioning) the other night, and since then been feeling it. Had an ice pack on the past day or two, but been riding since (albeit a shortish road ride and some bmx this morning).

Not the first time I've felt a slight strain in the Achilles, but usually I forget about it and it goes away - this feels a bit more. No intention of being off the bike entirely, but there are a few upcoming things I'm pondering whether it'd be wise to miss out on.

Armchair GPs - any diagnoses/tips?

Cheers!

Had a similar issue a couple of months ago. Can't run yet but the bike has been no trouble atall. I've was recommended by the physio to stay off it and stay away from any movment other than walking. It will heal of its own accord apparently but will need slowly working back up to full strength. I'm at a stage now where i'm tying to build the tendon strength back up again doing heel raise's on the steps. I was told that if it hurts a little bit then you stop what your doing instantly or possibly risk more permanent damage.

my physio recommended stretching the achilles and then use finger and thumb moving up and down the achilles in a sort of rocking motion. pretty dull that was. So I started using something like this

using the infrared and vibrate function I relax the achilles area and massage for about 2-3 mins and then I tense the achilles and move the thingy up and down for a min each side. Total of 3 mins each side.

Seems to be working
