The other half is interviewing for a job in Truro this week. As it's a 7 hour drive away I've offered to drive her, so she can be as well rested as possible, leaving me a few hours to kill, but no shops etc really open to do anything.

Is it worth taking the bike down, wouldn't like to venture too far but might squeeze in a 1 1 1/2 or 2 hour loop if there's anything nearby? Cheers!

Idless Woods is close, check out the trails on the trailforks app ,this time of year it can get a bit moist in there but the top line should still be running fine .

Cheers, that looks like it will do nicely. Is it fairly obvious to find the trails up there?

Poldice will be easier to find to your way round than idless and is pretty close to Truro.

Idless is good fun but the good trails can be a bit of a mystery to find and I expect it is a bit of a bog right now!

Poldice is close, nothing waymarked and a bit more tech. If you want something waymarked then Cardinham isn't *that* far away and is your typical (short at 10k, but no long fireroad climbs) FC trail centre.

If it was me and I had a few hours, I would drive to South Coast Devoran -(Less than 5 miles away and less than 20 mins away (google says 11 mins) Park up and have a gander at the creek and wonder where I might like to live and then head up the completely off road Poldice Valley route to North Coast Portreath.

https://www.londoncyclist.co.uk/portreath-devoran-coast-coast-cycle/
https://cycle.travel/route/cornish_coast_to_coast

You will then be on a delightful day out ending up at the Atlantic Cafe bar on the beach for a slap up burger/fish and chips and a well deserved pint or two of Atlantic Ale, whilst watching the surfers.

If you feel all Jumpy and Rad - the route goes just to the side of some woods (Scorrier (I think) with really obvious harder routes and the Quary you go through also has obvious harder routes, alongside the main route.

If you are driving 7 hours, you will want a gentle scenic ride where you get to see some real Cornwall, never see a car and there is also an excellent Cafe a little further on from "Richiiiiiii" run by some ladies in a farmhouse (it's obvious) and they do an excellent mid way coffee and cake - which you might need by then. I would give Bissoe centre a miss - sorry R.

You will also have an excellent feel for the countryside and done a C2C - although a very short one. Trunks in the Camel back for the win.

Cheers all. We're actually down that way a few weekends a year to see her family, but other than a few visits to Cardinham, I've not been able to swing many rides in.

I've seen Poldice, Unity woods and Grogley woods on youtube which are all on the hit list if/when we do relocate down this way. I think Unity woods are right near Scorrier so may be the same Wally. The coast to coast does sound like it will make the list, although maybe not this time as we'll be pretty pushed for time.

On the subject, anyone here ride with a local group or with any lbs rides which would be worth joining? (when covid rules permit).

You are right, Unity Woods are in Scorrier. Don't rule out this route, it really is 12 or so minutes from Truro and you can be at a good Cafe 30 mins in, you can get to the other coast in 1 1/2 hours if you don't stop and it's a fast flat gravel route with Aquifers to ride under, river to watch and mines to not fall into with their associated stone derelict heads. It's all signposted and one straight path, so you can always turn back after an hour.

The Cornwall Mountain Bike Club ( https://cornwallmtb.co.uk) are a cracking bunch. Regular rides all over, from Land's End to Dartmoor.

When I ride passed it yesterday the bissoe bike centre wasn’t open. The hub at Portreath is as is the Surfers in Devaron and the one at twelve heads, all are on the C2C.
