most of us on here will at one time or another, got abroad to ride our bikes.
the last time i went i got insurance for mtb'ing, and i would think most others would do the same.

planning a trip to scotland soon for a weeks riding, also rode calderdale last week, which is in places rougher and just has dangerous as the alps.
why do we get insured to ride abroad but not at home?

What a coincidence!

I was just gonna start a thread re: personal accident insurance asking if anyone's got any that specifies road cycling, road cycling as a commuter, mountain biking (home/abroad/at altitude), DH etc.

I think I still might...

why do we get insured to ride abroad but not at home?

We may not be in a country with a reciprocal agreement with the NHS?

Getting an ambulance home in UK is much easier than sorting a flight from abroad (although you *may* be charged for the ambulance).

Had a standard travel insurance included local cover too, so long as you stay 2 or more consecutive nights away.
So MTBing/Skiing Sat/Sun staying in a hotel/hostel/B+B somewhere Saturday night isn't covered, but drive there after work on a Friday and stay the extra night, and it is.

Check out insure & go, they dont have clauses stopping you doing stuff, I originally took it our for an Alps trip but its decent enough value so I keep it as family insurance all year now so am covered if I have a big off at home.
