I've been thinking of getting an emergency Satellite SOS device, specifically for riding alone in the alps. I was all set on buying a device like a Garmin inReach but I found out it's being rolled out into some phones! The Google Pixel 9 has now enabled satellite SOS (using the Garmin service) for Europe. In reality it's fairly unlikely I'd be out of range of a cell tower for emergency SOS and I'll let someone know my plan in advance. I'm just looking for an extra layer of communication, most likely to tell someone I'm running late due to a mechanical failure, so I'm walking a long way down! Any thoughts, has anyone tried the SOS messaging on a Pixel 9?
Doesn't an Apple Watch have some sort of fall over technology?
It does yes, mine shook me the other day when I fell after tripping on a rock and it uses satellite, I also heard a tale recently of mountain rescue who were alerted to somebody in the mountains because of their watch and they were able to rescue them.
iOS also has it, but it’s for emergency services only, calling 999 to ask them to pass on a message you are running late is what you are envisioning.
