[#11079928]

After deciding that a drop bar conversion for my current bike will be too much hassle I’m looking a new gravel options.

Hydraulic discs are a must as is a 1x chainset and the Ribble CGR 725 looks ideal. More than I wanted to pay but for the spec seems fairly competitive.

Anyone here have one and if so any thoughts?

Ta.

A leftfield one to dimiss...

https://www.merlincycles.com/wilier-jareen-race-tiagra-gravel-bike-179193.html ~£830 including delivery before using any reward points or claiming cashback from Topcashback etc.

Not bad for Tiagra hydraulic brakeset, potential negative of alloy fork.

I had the 725 for a short while. I bought it in April last year. It was the basic Apex 1x spec but I went for Byways as a small upgrade.

It really was a decently capable bike for a good mix of road/tow paths/bike paths and through the woods type riding I do a lot of.

I wish I’d gone for a flared bar. Also I found the HT very tall but then I do prefer a racy low front end compared to most.

Sadly the bike was stolen by mid August. But overall it impressed me enough to know that a gravel type bike works for me.

This is a bit of a bargain:

Thanks all, the Willer does look good and despite being 2x is cheap enough to make it an option.

The Boardman looks like a billy bargain for a higher spec group set too.

I used to have a Cannondale Slate with Apex and thought it was great. On a steel frame it makes the Ribble seem ideal.
