Struggling to get rear guard fitting with new reverb. Do I really need to keep the crap off it ? What's the general view from reverbers - mudguards or no ?

I had a zefal no-mud to start with, it seemed to do the job until I went properly off-road with it then it was a pita so ditched it.
I just clean and lube it after most rides now..

I use an old RRP neoprene fork mudguard, tied around the saddle rails at the top and under the collar at the bottom. Works perfectly ๐Ÿ™‚
